In the summer of 2016, Gabriela was part of the team that produced the two-part documentary “Obama’s Years” that was distributed to member stations across the country as special coverage, and published on NPR.org. It was part of a series of exit interviews before President Obama left office.

"Unchecking the Box" is a documentary film Gabriela produced along with four other students in the documentary studies specialization at Michigan State University.

The film explores the complexity of racial identity within America, especially as it relates to college aged students. Every person has a unique definition based on their heritage, ethnicity, culture and experiences. In the film, they examine the stories behind the boxes.

As a producer for The Living History Project, a documentary that works in conjunction with the Michigan State University Journalism School, Gabriela researched, interviewed, filmed and edited narrative-rich stories that highlighted major historical events as seen through the eyes Michigan's Oldest Old.

This project captures ethnographic interviews to provide a window into the state's rich cultural history and to gain an understanding of older adults' thoughts on their longevity, resilience and quality of life. These individuals share stories that span a century. This project is a multi-generational experience where the oldest members of society will be better understood in relation to heir contributions to the world.

The project was featured in Art Prize, an international art competition held in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It earned a place in the Top 25 in its category and received recognition from MSU's College of Communication Arts and Sciences. It is currently being displayed there.

Five of the stories aired on the NPR affiliate radio station WKAR. The stories were edited in a format that can be experienced across media - radio, TV and online.
